Polivision Anniversary Party: Rockeros (Sept. 19th @ The Bakery)

Polivision celebrated its first anniversary with a party that challenged stereotypes and commercially trendy sounds. Did you know that punk rock might have begun in Lima, Peru, in the 1960s with a band called Los Saicos? There is a rich and hybrid tradition of Latin American rock music (and some Spanish allies) that we paid tribute to on September 19th, from 8pm-1am at The Bakery (825 Warner St, Atlanta, Georgia 30310).

The event also included a visual showcase of “Hybrid Atlanta,” Polivision’s series of video interviews with local creatives whose work establishes a dialog with latinx and global cultures.

Expect to party to artists like: Charly Garcia. Los Prisioneros. Soda Stereo. Caifanes. Aterciopelados. Miki Gonzalez. Babasónicos. Julieta Venegas. Bunbury. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Café Tacuba. From Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Mexico and more.

These musicians incorporated local sounds within global genres creating a unique blend of rock en español. Navigating dictatorships, socio-economic crisis, corruption and defective democracies, there was once a rebellious spirit that wanted to say more than just: despacito.
