Oasis Reunites After 15 Years: Latin America Prepares for the Gallaghers’ Return

Fifteen years after their split along with decades of feuding, the Gallagher brothers of Oasis reunited for a tour that will span five continents.  Sold out concerts around the globe include Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. 

The British band came to fame as one of the biggest Britpop bands during the 1990s and 2000s, emblematic of the “Cool Britannia” era.  

Their second album, “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, has sold more than 22 million copies worldwide and it is ranked as U.K.’s third best-selling album of all time. Drug use and major sibling rivalries aside, the band’s legacy points to working class roots and the optimism of the 1990s.   

With respect to the reunion tour, Noel Gallagher expressed being nervous about performing at first but informed the Rolling Stone that it’s been amazing and that he’s proud of his brother, Liam.  

Previous presentations in Latin America include the Be Here Now Tour (1998) in which Oasis began to gain a cult following in Argentina, Brazil and Peru, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants Tour (2000-2001), Don’t Believe the Truth World Tour (2006) and Dig Out Your Soul Tour (2008-2009). The band’s presentation in Mexico in 1998 is especially remembered as 20,000 fans attended the last performance of original members, Guigsy and Bonehead. 

The band’s positive reception in Latin America is understandable given the evolution of rock in the region as an outlet against crises and authoritarianism.  The nostalgia of 1990s, the last golden decade of Latin American rock, is also an essential component of the chemistry between the fans and the iconic British band.

Quince años después de su separación y tras décadas de enfrentamientos, los hermanos Gallagher de Oasis se reunieron para una gira que abarcará cinco continentes. Los conciertos, con entradas agotadas en todo el mundo, incluyen paradas en México, Argentina, Chile y Brasil.

La banda británica alcanzó la fama como uno de los grupos más grandes del Britpop durante las décadas de 1990 y 2000, emblema de la era de la “Cool Britannia”.
